A new community hub for local families and residents. Part of the Barnard Park redevelopment master plan.

A new community hub for local families and residents. Part of the Barnard Park redevelopment master plan.

Over the past 18 months, we have worked closely with local community members, park users and Friends of Barnard Park to develop an existing design for a new community hub building in one of Islington’s largest parks.

The new building is part of the wider redevelopment of Barnard Park, which includes a new state-of-the-art football pitch and landscaping works designed by BDP that will improve biodiversity and habitat for wildlife.

The building will provide a range of services for the local community by creating a flexible, multifunctional space that will become the new home of the One O’Clcock Club, a drop-in facility for parents, carers and children aged 0-5 from the area.

A new cafe will activate the front of the building when not being used by local residents and families, with facilities including toilets and changing rooms added to support the new football pitch.

The single-storey building will be fully accessible and has been designed to achieve BREEAM Very Good, with reclaimed London stock bricks and a pressed metal aluminium facia forming a reduced palette of contextual materials.

The new community hub building will be delivered in phase two of the proposed improvement works, starting in January 2024.
